NFL Picks - December 14, 2007
At the Davis Sports Deli we get pretty competitive. Between Collin (the fantasy expert), Paul (the Power Rankings guru), Aaron (the West Coast football genius) and Joshua (the East Coast football genius), there's a lot of NFL Big Dawgs around here. Since these fellas are constantly bumping into each other around the Deli, measuring each other's egos with football knowledge, we decided to let these guys loose.
Team Fischman won in our debut last weekend, finishing with nine correct picks and only one wrong one. Meanwhile Team Kool-Aid lost a heartbreaker in Tennessee and finished at 7-3. This week you know there will be a few upsets in order, so pay careful attention on Sunday to see how your favorite Deli contributors fare in their Weekly Picks.
Cincinnati Bengals at San Francisco 49ers (Saturday)
Aaron (Team Fischman): Bengals
The Bengals were actually competitive in their last road game (in Pittsburgh, where no road team has won this year). The 49ers are far worse than the Steelers.
Collin (Team Kool-Aid): Bengals
I think the Niners have a shot at this one. But then again I've been a San Francisco fan for 20 years. The Cincy defense looked good against the Rams. Don't expect the QB woes to clear up anytime soon in SF.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Pittsburgh Steelers
Aaron (Team Fischman): Steelers
Make it 8-0 for the Steelers at Heinz Field!
Collin (Team Kool-Aid): Jaguars
Jacksonville is averaging over 28 points over their last seven games and Pittsburgh looked rattled against New England. Troy Polamalu will be back, but it won't be enough to stop the Jags and their weapons on the ground (and in the air).
Detroit Lions at San Diego Chargers
Aaron (Team Fischman): Chargers
The streaks will continue as, including this game, the Chargers get four wins in a row and Matt Millen and company move to six straight losses. Jon Kitna may not even get his team to eight wins, let alone ten.
Collin (Team Kool-Aid): Chargers
Although they just lost Shawne Merriman, there should be plenty to be merry about in San Diego on Sunday. The Chargers won't need to take this one to OT to give the Lions their sixth straight loss.
Tennessee Titans at Kansas City Chiefs
Aaron (Team Fischman): Titans
Last week's heartbreaking loss to the Chargers left a bad taste in Vince Young's mouth. He won't let his team fall to 7-7.
Collin (Team Kool-Aid): Titans
Look for the Titans to be out for blood in this game. They lost a close one at home and the whole team should come to play this week to show why they should have beat SD.
Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys
Aaron (Team Fischman): Cowboys
You never know with Donovan McNabb, but I'll go with the Cowboys.
Collin (Team Kool-Aid): Cowboys
Philly disappointed me last week, but I think Dallas will come through for me again. No one has had an answer for Tony Romo's boys except for the Pats. Look for McNabb to fail this quiz just like the Cowboys' previous seven opponents.
Arizona Cardinals at New Orleans Saints
Joshua (Team Fischman): Saints
Drew Brees will destroy the Cardinals secondary just as fellow QBs Matt Hasselbeck, Derek Anderson, Trent Dilfer, Carson Palmer and Jon Kitna have done in the Cardinals' previous five games...and, yes, Dilfer is still playing.
Paul (Team Kool-Aid): Saints
The Saints are looking for the final playoff spot so they will come out strong and run for about 120 yards with Aaron Stecker against the Cardinals Run D. They will also pass like crazy against the Adrian Wilson-less secondary.
Buffalo Bills at Cleveland Browns
Joshua (Team Fischman): Browns
This is a tough game to call but the way the Browns have been playing at home this season gives them the edge. The Browns' bid for an undefeated home season will continue, but the game will be close throughout.
Paul (Team Kool-Aid): Browns
With or without Marshawn Lynch, the Bills won't be able to keep up with the high-powered Browns; especially since the Browns are at home.
Baltimore Ravens at Miami Dolphins
Joshua (Team Fischman): Ravens
The Ravens have lost seven straight games and the Dolphins have lost all 13 of their games. But the Ravens have a huge edge in this game...they actually have talented players on their roster.
Paul (Team Kool-Aid): DOLPHINS
I truly believe that the Dolphins will earn their first win of the season against the Ravens. This may be Jason Taylor's last season in the NFL and he won't want it to end this way. Taylor will step up his game and others will follow by example.
Washington Redskins at New York Giants
Joshua (Team Fischman): Giants
Todd Collins will not repeat last week's success against a tough Giants D. Even if Eli struggles, the Giants will pull out the victory in this one.
Paul (Team Kool-Aid): Giants
The Giants' defensive ends
should be able to get to Todd Collins all day in this game. Last game Eli didn't make any mistakes. Let's just see if he can keep it up.
Chicago Bears at Minnesota Vikings
Joshua (Team Fischman): Vikings
Bears coach Lovie Smith says that starting Kyle Orton gives the Bears the best chance to win. The implication of which is that no matter who they put out there at QB the Bears do not have a chance.
Paul (Team Kool-Aid): Vikings
Does anyone remember what happened the last time these two teams met up? Adrian Peterson ran for 296 yards and three scores. I am sure Da Bears will be ready to stop A.P. but Kyle Orton is making his first start in two years. That explains it all.
Well folks, you've seen the picks. Now, it's up to the players on the field. Who will triumph this week? Will it be the Fischman Bros again? Or will Rookie Paul and Mr. Kool-Aid step into the spotlight for their first bath of glory?
Since most of these picks are similar, it all comes down to a few, select games. May the best team win.
Check back on Tuesday evening for the final evaluation of the first installment of NFL Picks.
