Paul Topchyan Interviews:
Luke Lippincott

Junior running back Luke Lippincott may not have a recognizable name, but he certainly has an
excellent game. Lippincott led the Nevada Wolf Pack in rushing this season with 1,380 yards
rushing on 257 carries (that's 5.4 yards per carry!). Oh, and did we mention the 15 rushing
touchdowns? Lippincott was kind enough to answer questions from Deli writer Paul Topchyan before his game Saturday against the University of New Mexico in the New Mexico Bowl. Read on to find out what he says about the Heisman Trophy, the undefeated Hawaii Warriors and Nevada's upcoming matchup with the Lobos.

Paul Topchyan : What kind of a team are the 2007 Nevada Wolf Pack?

Luke Lippincott: We are a strong team that has had a lot of tough breaks. We have lost four games by 4 points or less and another [game] by 1 touchdown. Our record definitely doesn't describe what kind of a team we are.

PT: What do you know about your bowl opponents (New Mexico)? How are you preparting for them?

LL: New Mexico is a good all-around team. They have a good offense and their defense is fast and hard hitting.

PT: Who deserves the Heisman Trophy (this year)?

LL: Being a running back, I always want to see a running back win the Heisman.

PT: How will the home field advantage for New Mexico affect the game?

LL: It will mainly be like an away game for us since it is on their turf. But bowl games are different and have their advantages for both teams.

PT: You almost beat the undefeated Hawaii team. How good are Colt Brennan and his receiving corps? Should they be in the BCS National Championship?

LL: Colt Brennan and his receivers are one of the best, put together, in the nation. Any one of their starting receivers are a touchdown threat. So it leaves the field wide open. They definitely deserve a BCS game. I believe that once the WAC wins a couple more BCS games, then a BCS national championship could be reachable.

PT: Dare to make a prediction or guarantee about the New Mexico game?

LL: My only prediction about the game is that both teams are fighting to prove something and it's gonna be worth watching.
